BEFORE INTRAVENOUS ANESTHESIA SEDATION

Before undergoing any oral surgery procedure using intravenous (I.V.) anesthesia sedation, you must read through our following instructions and guidelines. If you have any further questions/concerns regarding anesthesia or your upcoming surgery, please call our office. In addition, if you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Krakora prior to your surgical date for instructions.

7 Things You Need to Know Before You Have Surgery with IV Sedation

ANESTHESIA INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES

  • Do not eat or drink anything (including water) 6 hours prior to your appointment.
  • You must stop smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. However, it's best to cut down or eliminate smoking as soon as possible prior to the procedure.
  • A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office. They will remain there for the entire procedure and drive the patient home.
  • Do not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours after being under anesthesia.
  • Please wear loose fitting clothing and low-heeled shoes. Shirt sleeves should be rolled up past the elbow.
  • Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
  • Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
  • Please notify the office if you are starting to develop an illness. This includes a cold, sore throat, or an upset stomach or bowels.
